My Views On Evolution
The
Theory of Evolution is simply that. A theory. It has been proven to be
an incorrect theory and should be thrown out, but the schools continue
to teach it because despite its errors, it is the only way atheists can
explain the origin of life. To give up on evolution would mean
accepting that a benevolent God created everything, and that's just too
much for atheists to understand.
To be fair, I don't think evolution is as responsible for atrocities as
many Christians believe it to be. However, it is a heresy and must be
debunked to protect the minds of new Christians.
REASONS AGAINST EVOLUTION
First
off, both carbon-dating and dating by sedimentary rock layers is
unreliable. Sedimentation occurs very slowly today, but consider the
glaciers - they moved boulders and scraped out valleys! Surely there
could have been some dynamic disaster in the past which caused most of
today's sedimentation. For fossilization to occur, sedimentation must
occur rapidly. Fossils have been found that indicate a quick death
(fish eating other fish, standing fossilized tree trunks, etc). Such
fossils could not have been formed by the slow accumulation of debris
attributed to an old earth.
Radiometric dating is likewise flawed, because one cannot determine how
much radioactive Carbon-14 was in the creature to begin with, and
radioactive decay rates may have been faster in ages past.
Consider the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Thomas Barnes has said that
the magnetic field of the earth 10000 years ago was as powerful as a
magnetic star's. Since the Earth cannot conceivably have a magnetic
field stronger than a stars (or even Jupiter's!), that puts an ultimate
limit of 10000 years on the Earth's age.
The sun shrinks by ten miles in circumference per year as it burns
fuel. So the sun must have been much larger at the dawn of time. Twenty
million years ago, the surface of the sun would therefore touch the
surface of the Earth. Since this would have destroyed the Earth, the
sun and therefore the Earth must be much younger.
The oceans grow saltier each year, but the oceans aren't salty enough
for a world that is supposedly billions of years old. By the ocean's
salt concentration, the Earth could only be about 62 million years old.
Hemoglobin has been found intact in unfossilized dinosaur bones. The
hemoglobin should have been destroyed by this time if the bones really
were 65 million years old. The presence of hemoglobin necessitates an
age of only a few thousand years.
Fossilized trees have been found penetrating several layers of coal.
This indicates that the trees must have been buried - and the detritus
changed to coal - so quickly that the termites couldn't attack the wood.
Finally, there isn't any real proof that one species can change into
another on its own. Bacteria can pick up extra genes to alter their
metabolism, but they still remain the same kind of bacteria.
It is for reasons like this that I no longer believe in evolution.
SIMPLIFIED CREATIONISM
I
don't believe the Earth is as young as 6000 years. However, a 10000
year old Earth would have that ultra-powerful magnetic field, which
could wipe out everything.
The Book of Genesis hints at a pre-Adamic Earth. Genesis 1:1 says that
God created the heavens and the Earth in the beginning. But Genesis 1:2
says that the Earth was without form and void. God would never created
something chaotic. The only explanation is that God had created the
Earth and the heavens as perfect as could be until something (satan)
turned all creation into chaos. God then had to re-make the Earth
miraculously in six days - no difficult feat for a being with infinite
knowledge and power.
Assuming that God didn't boost the power of the magnetic field back up,
I would hazard a guess that the Earth is only about 8000 years old.
However, God had to create light once more (Genesis 1:3) and had to
re-ignite the stars (Genesis 1:14), so maybe God had refueled the stars
and the Earth's magnetic field too, which could mean the Earth might be
older than 10000 years old. I really can't tell how old the Earth is.
All that the Bible says is important is that God created the universe,
repaired it, and miraculously made life reappear on it within 6 days.
CONCLUSION
Every
Christian should know the truth about evolution. It will really free
you once you decide to believe in the reality of God's creation
miracle. Not only will you have greater respect for life, but you will
also have fewer doubts about God's Word and His power. The benefits to
your faith are immeasurable.
Love you. God Bless.
