How to Receive the Holy Spirit

Before you continue, you must first be a Christian. Click on the salvation link to learn how to join Christ's heavenly family.

Now that you are Saved, the next big step is to accept the Holy Spirit into your heart and give Him permission to express Himself through you. This is called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Simply ask God in faith to fill you with the Holy Spirit. God will not send you a counterfeit Comforter (Luke 11:10-13). He is a good Father and will never lie, so you can be sure that it is the Holy Spirit who possesses your heart.

Once you have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, you will speak a new, unknown language, just like Jesus' twelve disciples did (Acts 2:4). God never changes, and He loves you just as much as He loved the Disciples. If the Holy Spirit was given to mankind then, then God will give Him to you now.

The Holy Spirit is necessary for the novice Christian because He helps us pray (Romans 8:26-28), advises us when we make decisions, and leads us into greater and greater holiness.

Ask God right now to fill you with His Holy Spirit. Pray this prayer right now: "I thank you Father that you will pour Your Holy Spirit into my heart. Please, Holy Spirit, come make your home in my heart right now and I promise to listen to you and cherish you forever. In Jesus' Name, I thank You, Amen."

Believing that the Holy Spirit is in your heart and will make you speak in another language, begin to speak whatever words you feel led by the Spirit to speak. You will most likely start laughing with joy as you speak them. Don't feel embarrassed. Just speak as you are led by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit will probably only give you a few words to start with, until you get used to speaking them with regularity. As you practice daily to speak in tongues, ask the Holy Spirit for more words to learn. Write them down if you must. Always remember to pray in tongues every day.

Love you. God Bless.
